Today, that initial sum of $250 enclosed within a shoebox has transformed into Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, a financial institution surpassing $1 billion in assets. We proudly hold the position of being the largest credit union in eastern Connecticut and a prominent player in the state’s financial sector. Our comprehensive range of services includes banking, investments, insurance, and more, complemented by a network of conveniently located branches throughout eastern Connecticut.

Since our establishment in 1939, we take immense pride in the fact that our operations have always been guided solely by our members, not influenced by stockholders. Our Board of Directors consists entirely of dedicated volunteers who receive no compensation for their diligent efforts, and they are elected by our membership.

Our journey has been marked by numerous significant milestones throughout the years, contributing to our illustrious history. Yet, throughout all the accomplishments, we have remained steadfastly committed to our credit union roots that originated humbly in the Groton shipyard.
